Rainbow Dress

A Landscape in Fashion

Mixed Media/Fiber   24″ W x 48″ L

In 2018 the Denver Art Museum did an extensive Dior exhibit. I loved seeing fashions that I remembered seeing in fashion magazines. I probably even wore facsimile dresses reproduced for a mass market. It was easy to admire how a simple sketch could be translated into a garment to be worn and cherished. I especially responded to the evening dresses by Galliano. They were incredible works of art. How I would have loved being able to wear any of them.  Yes, Dior’s collection had a fabulous rainbow dress, but soon after seeing the dress, I traveled to Hawaii and experienced many exquisite rainbows. I photographed and sketched them every day. When I returned home, I painted the last of my parachute silk in rainbow colors. This fabric became the dress with Hawaiian palm trees in the backgrounds.   $1,200
