Feeding of the 5000

When of the most emotionally charged experiences for me on my January trip to India happened at a Sikh temple in New Delhi. The Sikh volunteers were able to feed literally thousands of people every day. All the food was donated and cooked in a huge kitchen by groups of volunteers. The image I tried to create in this piece is the hungry men and women sit on the floor in rows with metal trays in front of them. The food is distributed one scoop at a time to each visitor. It seems to me that concerned people in Denver should be able to replicate this experience. Admittedly this was before COVID-19. Technique wise I was inspired by the crowds of diverse people painted by Norman Rockwell and Diego Rivera…both recently exhibited at the DAM.    $2,900
